what you see, is what you get...

Welcome to our family blog! I enjoy making lists, but a journaler I am not! However, I really thought this would be a great way to keep in touch with people that we don't get to see or talk to nearly enough. Life gets so busy, so perhaps I can keep this current and in turn you as well!

"Fourscore and seven years ago

our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal." Wesley and his friends celebrated Abe Lincoln's birthday today. Did I mention that I love our daycare? I think he gets to do so many neat things plus I get pictures emailed to me, which totally make my day!

He is also learning what is okay to say and not. On the way home from "school" yesterday, Wesley said "Oh My Gosh!" So I was like, what?! And he said, Mom that is okay to say. So then I was like okay but I prefer we say "Oh my goodness." Anyway, then he proceeds to tell me what is not okay to say "I hate this" and "STUUUPID" and "poopy butt." I really think he enjoyed saying them because he kept telling me that we don't say this or that. So basically he found a way to say them all without upsetting me. He is too smart for his own good. ; )

3 for 3

I have been dreading posting because we don't have anything great to say. We've been to the doctor at least six times this past week and a half. Wesley and I are doing much better but Shane now has a miserable ear infection. He went to Urgent Care today after a painful evening and sleepless night. His ear was even bleeding, so that was scary. So, we are all on antibotics and I almost feel like we know the pharmacy staff at Walgreens too well. We should be under house lockdown until we are all healthy!

My 37 week appt went well. I am officially full-term so I am anxious to get this over with. Shane probably wouldn't be the best birthing partner in his current condition so I will patiently wait. My doctor just said that my cervix was super, Super soft - moving up the scale of softness I guess. I was telling Wesley to look at my belly tonight because the baby was moving and he asked, "Mom, is it going to pop?" He isn't too far off from describing how I feel!

Things are looking up for us...

Wesley came home from daycare happy! When Wesley's happy, we're all happy. Yeah!!! He was in such a good mood we made a point to channel all that energy into making cupcakes. It was a lot of fun. So I took some pictures and even a little video clip of Wes counting to 12. You can tell that he his back to himself in the video - I hope you can view it.

We also found a trick to doing his nebulizer treatments. It includes a fish mask borrowed from our daycare's daughter. Once he thinks he is a fire blowing dragon fish it makes life inhaling meds not so bad. I found a couple more masks online and ordered them right away... soon he'll transform into Eden the Elephant and Nic the Dragon. Hey, anything to make this work is worth it!!! We followed up with reading books about "feeling good" to help retrain the brain. His hugs even made me feel like it was worth the pain of the past week.

I feel sorry for his future wife...

because I can hardly handle the whines and cries that are accompaning Wesley's illness. Usually a day or two is manageable but this is over the top. I know he isn't himself yet so I may have to go in for a recheck tomorrow if we stay on this path. We have battled constantly these past few days. He doesn't want milk, water, juice but it is thirsty. It takes an hour to get a 10 minute nebulizer treatment out of him. One second he wants something and the next he doesn't want anything but you cannot do anything right and everything is yucky. And he is reverting back to baby talk so productive conversations have been limited. It is very frustrating! Fortunately we are still potty trained (only one accident since we took away the night time pullups)! Anyway, if I ever want him to move out of the house and find a lovely wife - we'll need to work on breaking this whineness! ; ) Poor guy!

I've got chicken chili and regular chili warming in the crockpots and we are getting ready for the small Superbowl Party we are hosting.

36 week appt.

and nothing too exciting to post. My doctor said I am measuring along at 38 weeks, which is only freaking me out for a huge baby. We'll have to address that next week... This was also my first exam and she really couldn't tell much. Probably TMI - but she said that my cervix is really far back so she couldn't really tell if I am dilated at all. She didn't want to put me in much more discomfort so God Bless Her! She said that my cervix was super soft - whatever that means. I am a number person and need a little more quantitative data but that was good enough for me today. The baby's heart rate was in the 140's. I guess it was pretty uneventful but we are getting closer regardless!

Wesley and I are still pretty sick so I am just focusing on that right now.

Just when you think you cannot get any sicker...

we do! Wesley has had a persistant cough and it is related to his apparant chronic asthma. Then he got croup over the weekend and early this week. Then a fever and I took him into today (probably should have taken him earlier) and he has a double ear infection! In my defense, I did call the nurse line and they said that a fever is to be expected with croup. So, I expected it and was just worried about how high it got. Then, last night I decided to finally go to the doctor for my cough and found out I have Bronchitis. So, we are all drugged up here! I won't even talk about the cost of our six medications...it makes me even sicker! We changed plans in '08 that is apparantly suppose to be a cost savings to us but one medication was just shy of $400! The rest were more managable but I about died! So I guess I did talk about it but seriously...this was a shocker.

On a lighter note, all is well considering. This was a big week for other things as well. Shane bought a Ford F150 Crewcab truck - it is huge. We hope it fits in the garage - our dimensions clear us for about 6 inches in front and back. I will make Shane take a cheesy picture by his truck since it is his first new vehicle... to follow. Tuesday night we celebrated Uncle Ryan's 25th birthday with an indoor picnic at G&G K's house. Wesley will always muster up a little energy to play with his cousins. I have my doctor's appt. tomorrow so I should have an update on that front tomorrow.

Recap

We accomplished so much this past week. We somewhat re-organized the basement. Wesley now has an open basement to play baseball, hockey, ride his tricycle and scooter. Shane is enjoying the "training" sessions already and Wesley has asked to go down there to play - so he must be enjoying it equally. Shane put together some heavy duty storage racks and we sort of got all our bins figured out for that area. Then we moved up to organizing the baby's room, which I am at peace with now. There was so much stuff in the closet and little things that need to be organized. It won't be painted before the baby comes but neither is anything in the entire house. Wesley's closet got a reorg as well. So, I am feeling at least the house is ready for the newest arrival. I finally packed my hospital bag too! Now, I just need to get mentally ready.

I had two girls nights out this week... Wednesday night the RWC group went downtown to the Melting Pot and Saturday night the YHS birthday group went to California Pizza Kitchen. It was so nice to get out enjoy the company of girlfriends! I feel like I have seen more movies (in a theater too!) and gone out with friends more in the past month than I usually do in a year... I know things are going to be very crazy soon so I am really enjoying this, especially following the Fall of Shane (aka hunting season). I may just schedule a pedicure and haircut this week and call it the January of Sarah.

One area done

finally! That would be the window coverings in the dining area of the kitchen. I am super pumped that my two custom made roman shades are done! I really love how it turned out. Also, the blackout cellular blinds arrived today for the baby's room! I need some sense of accomplishment since there is SO much yet to do.

MLK Jr.

Wesley has been learning about Martin Luther King Jr. these past few days. They painted shelled peanuts different colors and the lesson being that no matter what the color is on the outside, they are the same on the inside. He also wrote (traced) the following:

Today at daycare the kids all exercised to a Dancing with the Stars workout video?...not sure what it was. Anyway, they learned the Cha Cha dance and his teacher's note said, "Although, Wes did it all with his hands in his pockets." Nice. Seriously, that doesn't sound like my kid. Maybe he is acting macho for his friends?

Weekend Update

We toured the hospital yesterday. I feel a little better seeing where we are going to deliver but we also thought our last hospital had better amenities...luckily I only plan on a two day visit. We saw a couple babies in the nursery and Wesley asked where is our baby? I suppose this is all confusing for someone his age. I saw another little girl who was at least the same age as Wesley if not older ask her dad the same question.

Wesley heard a baby crying on tv this weekend (he was in another room). He came running to find me and asked "Mom, is the baby crying?" Seriously, I thought it was so sweet. He may be more prepared than I am!

We spent today cleaning house a bit. I helped Wesley make his bed and then he called me in later to show me that he finished it. It was pretty cute because he piled up all his crap on his pillows. He was so proud of it.
